This IP address is operated by NetSecureLab at the Department of Computer Science, Virginia Tech for academic Internet measurement research.

What We Do

We conduct periodic, non-intrusive network scans to study the health and security of Internet routing infrastructure. Our scans send only TCP SYN packets to a small number of well-known ports (80, 443). We do not attempt to exploit any vulnerabilities, access any systems, or collect any private data.

Scan Characteristics

• Protocol: TCP SYN only (no application-layer interaction)
• Ports: 80, 443
• Frequency: Weekly
• Purpose: Internet routing security measurement (RScope project)
